Training/Safety
Starplex Corporation has an extensive training program to assist venues and events in safety awareness. This training involves dealing with work environment safety, crowd safety, alcohol awareness safety, and venue safety. Management and supervisory staff are adept in training pertinent to each state. For example, management staff attend several Washington State Labor and Industry seminars dealing with work environment safety. They are trained on assisting ambassadors if they are injured and the process on how to report an injury.
The purpose of providing this training is to pro-act to potential situations that may occur at a special event or venue. Starplex Corporation prepares pre-event facility checklists, which allow staff to do a walkthrough of a venue to check for items such as loose railings, burnt out lights, sharp objects on surface floor or walking surfaces, wet spills etc. Forms are produced that allow for maintenance repair documentation should they be required. These can be used to protect the facility from liability exposure.
Additional safety training is conducted in our venues for handling emergencies. Most venues have Emergency Evacuation plans. Ambassadors are trained on those policies and procedures. Within an event, ambassadors are trained on handling medical emergencies and working with EMS staff. Documentation is extremely important throughout an emergency situation. This training is offered as well.
The safety training utilized in alcohol awareness involves a reporting system where Starplex Corporation tracks incidents by type, location, time, and employee and reports are generated with graphs and charts. This allows Starplex Corporation to relocate ambassadors to problem areas to reduce incidents from occurring and also to monitor its own staff to ensure its ambassadors are following protocol.
Alcohol Training
Starplex Corporation currently has three Certified Trainers for “TEAM”, a nationally known Alcohol Awareness program produced by the National Safety Council. TEAM (Techniques for Effective Alcohol Management) utilizes all employees of a venue to help create a managed environment. This course is approximately 4 hours and is a commitment to ensuring responsible sale and consumption of alcohol in your facility. It was developed with the hope that it will be the foundation from which a facility can build and maintain a safe, enjoyable atmosphere for all guests.
The objective of this program is to get management and employees of public assembly facilities across the nation to work together to create and implement policies and procedures that effectively reduce the social and legal threats caused by the misuse of alcohol. The instructor’s responsibility is to help employees understand how to carry out the policies and procedures on alcohol management developed by the facilities Starplex is associated with.
This TEAM training deals with classroom discussions on misuse of alcohol and the problems an employee will face dealing with the misuse of alcohol. It also summarizes the legal effects of the misuse of alcohol at your facility. Some of the discussion includes:
- How to reduce Liability Exposure
- Alcohol overview and how it effects people differently
- Blood Alcohol Content
- Steps to take to know when to intervene and when to give advice or suggest advice
- Alternative ways of controlling impairment: amount consumed, amount of food in stomach, time span and mood
- Implementation of Policies and Procedures
The classroom style of training allows for groups to suggest ideas in their particular line of work that all employees can utilize. Our success in carrying out this program will benefit everyone - management, employees, guests and the community.
